Dave Douglas’ richly textured double album is in part an interesting tribute
to Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, whose career was marred by scandal and ultimately
fell from grace. The second disc stands on its own an assortment of independent
pieces. The interaction of his stellar group is impressive, particularly saxophonist
Marcus Strickland and drummer Gene Lake. Noteworthy performances are: “The
Real Roscoe” and “Fatty’s Day Off.”
