While major labels still shy away from female instrumentalists, they shouldn’t fear Vicki Genfan, who wields a spectacular acoustic Gibson. On the first of this album’s two discs, she plays original instrumentals with lively hooks. On the second disc, she plays and sings in a soul-style voice and does memorable covers of “What’s Goin’ On” and “Norwegian Wood,” with a must-hear guitar coda on the latter.
