Rachel Portman
Oliver Twist

The stately score
for Roman Polanskis cinematic interpretation of the Dickens classic
is intriguing in that it sounds very traditional, rather than many movie scores
feeble attempts to modernize traditional sounding music. The only shortcoming
is that Portmans music is often too beautiful for the films dark
themes. Characters such as the despicable Fagin should probably require more
strident undertones.
