the film that won 2006’s Oscar for best foreign language film, Tsoti, offers
a catalog of South Africa’s preeminent artists. The narrative details the
impoverished life of the Soweto Township ghetto and the accompanying score perfectly
matches the gritty texture with a brand of a regional dance-oriented style known
as kwaito. The artist Zola performs nearly half of the 19 tracks.
